David Papenfus Photography - Cape Town

Growing up in the scenic surroundings of Pietermaritzburg, I took an interest in cameras long before my parents could teach me to understand the cost of film and processing. Since then, photography has been listed high up on my long list of hobbies & interests, and has never looked back.

After studying Science at the University of Stellenbosch, my curiosity took me to London where I eventually found myself climbing the corporate ladder, pushing myself up in the world of Investment Banking IT. My career also took me to New York, Zurich & home again, whilst time away from work always took me to some of the most amazing parts of the world. Interesting and less frequented remote parts of the world were always my first choice travel destinations, and my camera remained my most important travel companion.

During my most recent banking stint in Switzerland, I began to get a better idea of what I was after as an individual. This is where I began to spend my time studying & expanding on my photographic skills and talent, whilst returning to the country I call home. Now I'm living a life where I can use the art & science of photography, bringing out the beauty of your special events, producing a set of memories which you can keep forever.

Cheers for now & go well.

Claudia and Lindsay - Married in South Africa

I met my wife Lindsay on a telephone dating services called Free Love in September 2006. She left me a message in my inbox and it took me a week to call her back, because I have just given up on love. I eventually called her back. The minute I spoke to her I fell in love with her voice and was eager to find out more about her. We have been chatting for a week via telephone and text messages. We spent three hours talking on the phone every night until we decided to set up a date to meet, but before I met her I already fell in love with her. We met the following Friday evening and it was love-at-first sight. I drove to Lindsay’s work without her knowing that I am coming. When I got there, I immediately recognized her (Keep in mind that we only chatted via Telephone). I sat in the car and watched her for a while, then I called her and told her to stop walking up and down and do some work. She was so shocked, I waited for her till she finish work, took her home to go freshen up and we went for dinner at a near by restaurant. We chatted for like hours and hours, we were the last people to leave. We enjoyed each other’s company so much. The next day I drove about 30km to see her with one rose to thank her for the wonderful evening I spent with her. From that day we could not get enough of each other and I every night I drove 30km to see her after work. I would leave her place in the morning hours and drive to work.

A month after that in November I asked her to move in with me. Things were hard, but our love for each other gave us the courage to continue and make a success of our relationship as many people said we moving too fast. January the following year her two children moved in as well. I then planned a very romantic evening and popped the big question and without a doubt I got a yes. The following day, we shard it with our parents and they were happy for us. We then set a date for the wedding, but at that point in time Lindsay was unemployed. We wanted to move the wedding to another date, but we then decided to continue with the wedding and not let anything spoil our big day.

The day before the wedding, Lindsay and her girl friends, threw me out of the house, and I went with my friends. At one in the morning, I called her and asked her if I could come home because I am missing her so much, her mom said no and dropped the call. The big day has arrived, 31ST MARCH 2007, I could not sleep. Nervous, sweaty hands, tears of joy came. Lindsay was one hour late. When I heard the car’s hooter at the Garden Venue, I jumped up and stood outside waiting for her. As I saw the car coming, the wedding car drove past me twice. My heart almost popped out. I ran after the car for a short distance, but the car was gone. Everyone starring at me, as if I should explain. LOL. Then for the 3rd time, Lindsay got out of the car, looking like a dream with her dress shinning brighter than the star. She walked down with her mother, looking so beautiful, and I wished it was our honeymoon. The Pastor then started with the ceremony and when it came to exchanging the rings, I was so nervous that I put the set in the wrong way. We said our vows and it was so beautiful. Then my part came, YOU MAY KISS YOUR BRIDE. I turned to her, looked in her eyes and we shared our first kiss as a married couple, that was the best kiss ever.

After signing the register, we went for pictures with all the family and when we came back the reception started. It was very intimate and small, but so enjoyable. Then it was time for me to swift my new wife away and we went to the most romantic place, where we were alone.
The day was amazing as it was shared with friends, family and the most amazing woman on earth, MY WIFE LINDSAY.

Wedding photography is a mix of tension, fun and finally absolute pleasure when you see the finished images.

Having attended many weddings of family and friends I know how important this day is to you. It is the photographer’s responsibility to capture the real moments.. of anxiety, joy, surprise and happiness and to present you with the most memorable images!!

I have been a photographer for nearly 4 decades (has it been that long!!) and still have a passion for what I do.

When scanning the Net to see examples of other photographers work I am continually impressed with the quality and creativity that is out there! I find this very inspirational .

Being able to Capture the Moment, that special look, to enhance it further and being able to extract the essence of the picture in so many ways provides me with the motivation to be one of the best.

I'm a portrait photographer based at the end of Africa in Cape Town and shoot weddings, kids, families, preggie bellies, babies and any other random projects that come my way. I have so much fun shooting people and can't think of a better job in the world.

If you're getting married, have a look at my wedding site and gossip pages which are specifically dedicated to images of the nuptial kind. On this site you'll find several portrait galleries to browse through as well as a personal blog of latest shoots and probably many pictures of my baby boy, Jude.

My passion lies in capturing all the elements that tell a complete and original story of your wedding day, from the once-off moments shared with family and friends to the details that you’ve been planning for months.

As a reportage-style photographer, I take care to work inconspicuously so that you and your guests can enjoy the day. I catch all the spontaneous emotions and the unplanned events, and I make sure that my session with the bridal couple is completely relaxed and fun.

Photographs are the most tangible reminders of your wedding day, and remain valuable for generations to come. Depict your story with my distinct style: fresh, beautiful and real.
